Learning about learning... who knew there was so much to learn. After the first Mindlab session in Kaitaia, I have realised that change is all around us in education and it is time to jump on board and go with it, scary or not!! I really liked listening to Gert Biesta. I identified and agreed with his ideas and thoughts about knowledge and education. The idea of 'grownupness' resonates with me as an educator. The shift from the child following the teacher to the child leading their own learning is profound and I am beginning to see some students take this on board as they begin to drive their own learning. The understanding that a student needs to be challenged in their thinking by questions that will keep them in the 'optimal' learning space is profound. Once students think of the world as something they are part of and need to contribute to, rather than them being the centre of their own world must indeed be profound for them and those teachers that work alongside them.
As educators we need to keep those questions coming so that we encourage students to think and seek answers to questions. Then, as Biesta says "they can be in the world in a grown up way".
